To Blog or Not to Blog, that is the question! Have you ever sat down to write and completely had a mental blank? What about having a good article in mind and you can’t work out a suitable title? Or perhaps you have never blogged before but know that you want to. This post just may give you a few clues.
I personally enjoy blogging and putting out there if you like, a few thoughts that I feel will be either educational, enlightening or possibly even entertaining. By doing this, I know that my audience will be likely to receive something of value and more likely to pay me a visit again into the furture.
Regardless whether you blog for simply personal reasons, for business or even both, it’s comforting to know that at least one other person on the planet has read your post and hopefully has gained some benefit from your writing. To blog without an audience or to never receive feedback would indeed be a very lonely experience.
Ok, so how do we know what to write about? What to do when you have a blank? Preparation plays a large part in any blog post I write. I try to always have a notepad with (or at least the notes feature of my phone) and jot down ideas as they spring to mind. Having a pad and pen beside your bed at night is also a very good idea. Heaven forbid if you wake up with a cracker of an idea at 3.00AM only to completely forget when you wake up proper later on!
Make a list of these ideas as you go about your daily activity and then set aside a time either daily or maybe only once a week and sit down and crank out some articles. The best time for me to write is when I am ‘totally in the zone’. If you have ever written a blog or article, you know exactly what I mean. When you are in the zone, your might pump out 2,3 or more articles in the blink of an eye. Just go with the flow. You can always come back later and edit as required. The important think is to let the words flow.
Another clue for writing is to time yourself. Set the timer on your watch for say 20 minutes and decide that you will write whatever you can in that short space of time. Often focused attention like this causes the subconscious to kick in and before you know it, the time is up and you have created a great post!
For me, I like to start with the title or headline and to build my article or blog post around that. It causes you to stay on topic and hopefully also, if you have chosen well, this title with have good keyword benefit and therefore you will rank well. But that is a subject for another post. (quick, grab that notepad!) Just make sure that as you check the article or blog post later on that you have kept to the subject. If you have great and if not, then perhaps you will need to adjust a few sentences or paragraphs or even a complete rewrite on occassions.
By following these few simple suggestions, you will be blogging like a pro in no time at all. Why not leave you favourite tips and tricks in a comment below, it would be great to hear from YOU.

Hey Peter,
Great article. I know for me, I like to write somewhere besides my office. It gets me in a more neutral territory where I’m not looking at all the things I need to do around me and I can focus on just writing.
Sometimes I even like to listen to my favorite music to put me in a “happy” mood for writing.
Thanks for letting us comment on your blog

Hey Peter!
Sometimes the title sticks me. I will be the first to admit I’ve written some that just plain sucked. I think I’ve gotten better at it though…
I have to have paper and pens all over the house. Otherwise when I wake up with an idea, or have one as I’m falling asleep, I have to get out of bed (sometimes in the middle of the night) and go write it down.
I listen to my ipod with a small stereo in the bathroom while I’m getting cleaned up in the mornings, and before bed. Always have books on there, or courses I’ve purchased. HAVE to have pen and paper in the bathroom now too!
Really, the more you write, the easier it is to do. Just like anything else in life.
Great topic Peter!

Hello Peter,
Nice post with great tips! I’ve been taking notes
I used to have a pen and paper by my bed to write ideas down as they popped into my mind. Once I needed reading glasses that went out the window.
I do jot things down on notepad though and sometimes start a post and then finish it later.
You idea with setting aside 20 minutes to write a post is awesome. I’ll try that out.
Thanks for sharing your ideas, Peter!
Have a great day!
Ilka
